Light Train
Tap a track. Ride the beat. Deliver the light.
Controls
- Tap a track (touch) / click it with the main mouse button
- Your train moves one track toward it on the next beat; tap anywhere in that track's column
- โ โ or A / D
- Move one track left or right of the track you're heading to
- 1 / 2 / 3
- Head straight for the left, middle or right track
- Several taps before one beat
- Only the last tap counts, so tapping back onto a block's track still crashes
- Esc / P / pause button
- Pause the ride; Resume gives you two count-in beats before the train moves again
How to play
ObjectiveReach the last station of each line with at least one of your three lamps still lit, delivering as many glowing cars as you can on the way โ the longer your train when you deliver, the more each car is worth.
Getting started
- Tap Play. Your first time, a practice ride of about 40 seconds with no lamps to lose shows you where to tap; Skip ends it.
- Look up the tracks: your headlight shows the next 5 rows of beads and dark blocks (only 2 inside a tunnel).
- Tap the track with the light beads. Each bead you ride over hooks one more glowing car onto your train.
- Tap on the beat, when the rings on the tracks pulse, as you move onto a bead, and that bead adds 2 cars instead of 1.
- When a dark block is on your track, tap another track before the beat. A crash empties your train and puts out a lamp.
- When a station's signal light appears, you have 8 beats to decide: drive through the platform to cash in every car, or keep them for the next station.
- Reach the last station, which covers all three tracks and delivers every car you still carry. A regular 3-lamp Local or Express arrival earns โ ; higher scores earn โ โ or โ โ โ . Daily rides give no stars; 4-lamp rides show โ without adding to your total.
- If your third lamp goes out, the train derails and the ride ends. Tap Ride again on the result screen to go straight back in.
Tips
- Dodge with an early tap โ any tap before the beat moves you in time. Keep the on-beat tap for moving onto a bead, where it pays an extra car.
- From the second section on, the middle track is always blocked halfway between two stations. Get onto a side track in the first few beats after each station.
- Your train moves only one track per beat, so going from the left track to the right takes two beats and passes the middle. Start early, especially in tunnels.
- The car bonus steps up at 5, 10, 15 and 20 cars: 9 cars deliver 135 points but 10 deliver 200. One or two cars short of a step on clear track? Skipping the station can pay.
- Take a gold bead (+150) only when your train is short. About one time in three its pocket is shut and you crash โ losing 3 cars costs 30 points, losing 15 costs 375.
- The two tracks beside a gold bead are always clear, so turning gold down is always safe. Stay on one of them when your train is long.
- In a tunnel your headlight sees only 2 rows, but a station's signal still lights up 8 beats ahead. Drift toward its track early.
- When FULL appears at 20 cars, any more beads are lost. Head for the next station โ that train is worth 600 points.
- The Daily Line lays out the same beads, blocks and pockets on every ride that day. Use one ride to learn where the shut pockets are, then plan your deliveries.
FAQ
How do you play Light Train?
Tap left, middle or right to choose a track; your train moves one track toward it per beat, so crossing from one side to the other takes two beats. Ride over light beads to add cars and drive through a station to turn them into points. Dark blocks empty your train and put out a lamp; reach the last station before all your lamps go out.
Is Light Train free, and do I need to download it?
Yes, Light Train is free and plays right in your browser with nothing to download or install. There are no purchases and no account to create; new lines and train colors open by playing, never by paying.
Can I play Light Train on my phone?
Yes โ Light Train is made for phones held upright, and you play with one thumb by tapping the track you want. Phone landscape works too. On a computer the same phone-shaped screen plays with a mouse or the keyboard: โ โ or A D move one track, 1 2 3 pick a track, Esc or P pauses.
Why did my train move a beat late?
Your tap came just after that beat had already been settled, so the game moved you on the following beat instead. The tap isn't lost โ it's just one beat later. Tap a little before the beat when you need to dodge; any tap before the beat is on time.
Do I have to tap exactly on the beat?
No โ any tap before the beat moves your train in time, so you can dodge as early as you like. Tapping right on the beat, when the rings on the tracks pulse, only matters as you move onto a light bead: then that bead adds 2 cars instead of 1.
What happens if I miss a station?
Nothing is lost when you miss a station: your cars stay on the train and you can deliver them at the next station. The last station of every line covers all three tracks, so any cars you still carry there are always delivered โ as long as you don't crash on the way.
Should I take the gold beads?
Take a gold bead when your train is short and leave it when your train is long. Gold gives 150 points at once and a later crash doesn't take them back, but it sits in a pocket whose way out is shut about one time in three, and a crash there empties your train. The two tracks beside the gold bead are always clear.
Why didn't I get any stars?
Only a regular 3-lamp Local or Express ride that reaches the last station adds stars to your total. Arriving earns โ , and reaching the line's two score marks earns โ โ and โ โ โ . A derail earns no stars or best score. The Daily Line gives no stars, and a 4-lamp arrival shows โ without adding stars or setting a best score.
How do I get a high score and three stars?
Deliver long trains instead of many short ones, because each car is worth more as the train grows: 20 cars deliver 600 points, while four deliveries of 5 cars give 300. Add on-beat catches for extra cars, take gold only while your train is short, and check the result screen โ it tells you how many points you need for the next star.
How do I open the next line, Express and the Daily Line?
Reach the last station of a line once to open the next one. Reaching it on a regular 3-lamp ride also opens that line's Express mode, the same line 20% faster with its own stars and best score. The Daily Line opens once you reach the end of Lantern Line, the second line.
I keep derailing on the same line. Is there any help?
Yes โ after three derails in a row on the same line, the result screen offers to start that line with 4 lamps instead of 3. Arriving that way still opens the next line, but it doesn't add stars to your total or set a best score. You can turn this offer off in Settings.
Is my progress saved, and do I need an account?
Your progress is saved automatically on this device, in this browser, and no account is needed. Lines, stars, best scores, train colors and settings are kept there; another browser, a private window or clearing the site's data starts fresh.
